 - The Antioquia surgeon has extensive experience in the Colombian health system.

Bogotá (D.C.), August 7, 2018. Sworn in before Iván Duque, President of the Republic, Juan Pablo Uribe took office as the new Minister of Health and Social Protection. Dr. Uribe, a surgeon, is a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.

Born in Medellín on August 14, 1965, he holds two master's degrees: one in Public Health, with an emphasis in Administration and Health Policies from the University of Michigan School of Public Health (Ann Arbor, USA); the other, in Public Administration at the University of Michigan School of Public Policy Studies (USA). At the time of his appointment as Minister of Health and Social Protection of Colombia, Dr. Uribe was General Director of the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá.

He was Health Manager for the East Asia and Pacific Region of the World Bank in Washington, D.C. (2009-2011). He also served as Executive Director of the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (2004-2009); senior Health Specialist for the Latin America and the Caribbean Region at the World Bank, in Washington D.C. (2000-2004); Technical Coordinator of the Corona Foundation (1999-2000); Deputy Minister of Health (1998-1999); head of the Health Area and Technical Coordinator of the Corona Foundation (1995-1998); and General Director of Promotion and Prevention of the Ministry of Health (1994).

He was also an Associate Professor of the Department of Preventive Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá (1994-2000), as well as a consultant, lecturer and guest panelist at the national and international level.

His academic experience includes being a guest lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and in the Specialization program of Marketing Management for the Health Sector of the Universidad de Los Andes of Bogotá, as well as in the Specialization program of Management of Healthcare Social Security Institutions of the Santo Tomás University of Bogotá.​
