Narcissism and street smart may appear similar but street smart looks at the long term gains as well as the short range success. Street smart comes from secure self knowledge – narcissism mostly from fear. The self does what works what achieves desired results. If self serving behavior gets results that is all that matters to the narcissist who lives for the now. If women see a man that appears strong, capable to get his needs met w/out seeing if the man is long term or short term focus it is easy to mistake a narcissist for street smart and presume alpha.

Smart women know the difference between short term narcissists and long term street smart and vet them accordingly. The ideal combination is a good character (ethics, intelligence and a code of ethics) with street smarts. The good character allows the street smart individual to mitigate and manage those negative traits which are present to one degree or another in everyone while exercising enlightened self interest.

Not sure what you define as normal women; but most women that I know weed out Cads and Players so seamlessly it is not apparent. Granted these women pay attention to their instinct for self preservation and at the first hint of the Dark Triad disengage. Women who are drawn to cads or players lack this self preservation instinct or have blocked it, or never learned to recognize it.

Cads and players shower their targets especially women with praise and attention – narcissism feeding narcissism. Make them feel the world revolves around them – mirroring their own internal emotional sound track. Cads and players seek out a “need” and feed it, until the woman is hooked. This is why women won’t leave even if they “want” to. Cads, players know that it is the surest way to get what they ultimately want – give them what they want/need until they are hooked.

The dark side of what people remember is how you make them feel. Once the person is hooked they flip the switch and alternate between cad and prince charming. In this case the player – taps into the sound track of self doubt and feeds the persons feelings of insecurity and poor self esteem; then flips back to making them feel good. The person who has invested in the situation puts up with the bad in hope of the glimmer of good which come sometimes. Just enough good to make them think they have a chance.
