-It is part of a labor negotiation group.
Bogotá, July 14, 2020. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection led a working group on Tuesday, accompanied by the Ministry of Labor and the Administrative Department of the Civil Service, with three of the labor unions (CUT, CTC and CGT) to discuss labor issues of the health sector.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Fernando Ruiz, proposed to the representatives of the labor unions the formation of a working group with them, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor, "and there, discuss and present the issue with the Civil Service to work at once on regulatory development and the content of the regime."
Gerardo Burgos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, explained that at that meeting an agreement was reached to present a bill to grant powers to the Congress of the Republic so that, for a period granted by them, the National Government can regulate a new labor regime for workers in the health sector.
"This way we can respect the salary and benefits conditions of workers in the sector, as well as being able to overcome a problem that has been occurring in labor matters for years: to put an end to the different hiring forms that go against the workers' rights and for them to be able to regain those rights that dignify work in the health sector," said Burgos.
The Administrative Department of Civil Service, headed by Fernando Grillo, as the technical body in this matter, supported this proposal, which has been examined, together with the two ministries.
As for overdue payments for these workers, the minister noted that nearly $180 billion pesos were transferred over to 500 hospitals to be up to date on 2020 wages. "What we need, with your help, is to know which entities have not complied with that because the money has been transferred," Minister Ruiz told the representatives of the labor unions.
He added that $160 billion will be transferred in the next few days to pay back wages from previous years. And that to date $23.5 trillion pesos have been transferred from ADRES resources for the respective EPSs payments.
