Press Bulletin No. 104, 2018

- The strengthening of this entity will help improve health services for Colombians.

San Jacinto (Bolívar), August 25, 2018. The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Juan Pablo Uribe, insisted on the importance of strengthening the National Health Superintendence–one of the government's national bets–for the sector.

"We have a lot of decrees and resolutions that we need to enforce. We need EPSs to hire services based on quality for the people registered, that is the reason behind this strong Superintendence of Health, for it to clear the sector, to keep those who do things right," said the Minister in his speech in the Construyendo País workshop.

He also called on mayors and governors to conduct public health interventions with the communities and work, with them, environmental issues, identification of children with malnutrition, at risk of acute diarrheal disease or respiratory infection. "We need pregnant women to have prenatal check-ups, there are resources for that that we can implement better and we want to follow up on that," he insisted.

On his visit to San Jacinto, the Minister held a meeting with mothers of the girls of Carmen de Bolívar, whom he promised that "they can be part of the follow-up. And we will strictly follow up, every month, each of the thirteen commitments with the community in Carmen de Bolívar," he added.

Minister Uribe also toured the ESE Hospital Local de San Jacinto, where he identified the need to help out with an X-ray equipment, in order to improve the institution's response capacity.

"But more importantly, the Hospital asks us to serve as service providers and be part of that network. This is a topic that illustrates one of our great difficulties. We need public hospitals, when they work well, to be recognized, and be part of our system, not to be excluded and set aside," he said.

He also highlighted the upcoming inauguration of Simití Hospital, which will be prepared for the citizens, to provide timely, sustainable services with humanism and quality.

With regard to the Venezuelan migration to the Province of Bolívar and the District of Cartagena, Minister Uribe recognized vaccination as the main strategy against public health risks. "This is a time where we cannot lower our guard with the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), vaccinating our children, to avoid outbreaks that we did not have before," he said.
