Bogotá DC, October 5, 2020. In the Prevention and Action program with President Iván Duque, pediatric infectologist Sandra Beltrán pointed out that our country's Expanded Program on Immunization is one of the best in the Region of the Americas and explained how to prepare for the incorporation of the covid-19 vaccine.
"Colombia is prepared in terms of vaccination. The country has infrastructure, experience in support and a complete and very successful schedule of vaccines in children, adults and pregnant women," said the specialist.
Additionally, regarding the logistics in the country, Higuera explained that "in terms of transportation and cold chain, Colombia has the experience." Additionally, "at the national level there is a scientific technical team, external to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, with experience in verifying processes with high quality standards and scientific evidence," said the expert, who is also a member of the Committee of Immunization Practices of the Ministry of Health, on behalf of ACIN.
She reiterated that the Colombian vaccination scheme is one of the best in the region, and spotlighted the importance of having children vaccinated in all households, as well as remembering that pregnant mothers and older adults must also be vaccinated, "in order to keep coverage above 95% and therefore avoid illnesses," said Beltrán.
