Bogotá, August 3, 2020. Adriana María Robayo, director of the Institute for Technological Health Care Evaluation (IETS), assured that Colombia is recognized worldwide for having one of the best vaccination plans in the region and that if the vaccine arrives, the Institute of Technological Health Care Evaluation will support it by evaluating the different technical studies that are available.
In relation to the world's challenges in the search for a cure against the coronavirus, Robayo indicated that "today we have the best capacities of the world's scientists in a race against time in the search for the vaccine against covid-19," adding that every moment it takes to find the cure, it takes more lives.
"Science does not advance as fast as you would like; you must follow the scientific method, make comparisons, and in the case of vaccines they are compared with a placebo and different types of treatments so that in the end you get a specific result that causes a positive effect on the people who receive it," explained the director of the IETS.
As for who will be the groups that receive the vaccine, the expert said that this will be determined by the Ministry of Health together with a group of experts. "But in the world, there has been talk in relation to the vaccine being administered to medical personnel, to people aged 70 years and older and to people who have chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, blood pressure among others," she said.
Lastly, given the studies in the search for the vaccine against the coronavirus, she pointed out that there are more than 170 groups working in phase two, more than 70 are already in phase three and five have already been declared. "Colombia is making great efforts, using different mechanisms, to achieve the best negotiations to have the vaccine as soon as possible and to make it available to the country," she concluded
