Dear Amalia,

As I mentioned, the Ministry of Health needs to resolve some coverage questions for our health system. We pay for several procedures and some of those devices that we consider included within the health basket. Nonetheless our coverages are restricted to "average available technology" (AAT) which means not the latest, not the oldest device. Our system cannot afford to pay the top of the list in each device.

We have found difficulties in the assessment of what AAT exactly means for each and every one of the devices. Difficulties have ranged from review of written evidence to cost and economic evaluation. At this precise moment we need to define what AAT exactly is for a range of 60-80 items and there is quite an important time pressure.

Can ECRI help us?

Let us say, medicated earphones. Can ECRI do a review of what earphones are available in the market with its particular clinical indications? Can ECRI provide an approach of what can be the AAT in each case? Can ECRI help us with the cost- assessment?

How long will it take to answer each question?

Thanks a lot and will be waiting for a prompt reply,

Leonardo
